Greek Community Honours the Historic OHI of the Greek People
November 2026 Despite the adverse weather conditions last Sunday, the Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia commemorated, as it does every year, the historic uprising of the Greek people on October 28, 1940. On that day, the Greek nation stood united against the formidable forces of German Italian fascism and defiantly proclaimed its historic “OHI” (NO), refusing to surrender to the demands of Fascist Italy. The anniversary was commemorated with a church service and a wreath-laying ceremony in the grounds of the Cathedral of Archangels Michael and Gabriel, attended by representatives of the South Australian Government, local councils and the Greek community.
