Parents spend over $90k on public school education
28 January 2024
Parents in Australia are facing increasing financial strain due to education costs, whether attending
public or private institutions.
According to Futurity Investment Group, the estimated cost of putting a child through public school
in a major city, from Prep to Year 12, is over 92,000 dollars.
For Catholic schools, the estimate exceeded 195,000 dollars, and for independent schools, it
surpassed 315,000 dollars.
A survey by the Smith Family revealed that parents of public-school children are particularly stressed
about affording essential educational items.
Sydney and Melbourne were identified as the most expensive cities for education, with Sydney
parents projected to spend close to 360,000 dollars on private school education.
Across the country, both public and private education costs are projected to increase by more than 5
per cent in 2024, compared to 2023.
