Panayia Virginia Spring Festival

20 October 2023 With reasonably good weather conditions hundreds of Adelaideans made their way to Virginia on Sunday 1 October to participate in the annual Virgin Mary Festival held at the Kapiris farm as their private chapel located in the premises bears the name of the Birth of Virgin Mary. The first part of the two-day event commenced on Sunday September 7 at the private chapel with the clergy of Greek Community conducting the Great Evening Vesper as well as the Blessing of the Five Loafs. A few hundred people attended the event, with the Chian Association members working voluntarily to prepare the food and serve the public. Meanwhile the Kapiris farm was transformed into an open-air Greek funfair with grills working at full swing and volunteers preparing the delicious loukoumathes. The Spring sunshine, the traditional dances from the community’s dance group, the music by the Zorbas Greek music band and the culinary aromas of the Greek grilled delicacies added to the festive atmosphere. The event attracted people from all parts of the Adelaide Metropolitan area as well as regional towns such as Renmark, Berri, Walaroo and many more. Proceeds from the Festival are donated by the Kapiris family towards the community’s afternoon Greek schools.
