CRETAN FEDERATION OF AUSTRALIA

Conference held successfully in Hobart

February 2011

The Cretan federation of Australia and New Zealand held its 31st national conference on 8 January 2011 at Hobart Tasmania. The conference was held at the Hellenic Centre of the Greek community of Hobart and  was attended by 200 members representing all the affiliated Cretan associations, including 65 youth delegates from all the major Australian cities.

Amongst other things, the federation discussed the upcoming celebrations for the battle of Crete, to take place in the main Australian cities between the 15th and the 25th of May, at the presence of Greek and Australian army officials. The federation is also sponsoring a 15 day trip to Crete for children of Cretan background to visit the learn more about the land of their ancestors.

During the conference, the delegates were joined by locals and celebrated Cretan culture through music, dancing and other festivities. Next year's conference will be held in Sydney.
