Adelaide Celebrates Cyprus Independence Day

1 December 2022 The Cyprus Community of South Australia celebrated the 61st anniversary since the declaration of the independent Republic of Cyprus. An event was held on 20 November October at the Cyprus Community Club. Dignitaries included representatives of the South Australian Government and Opposition and local Community organisations. The founding of the Cyprus Republic in 1960 was a positive development, for all the people of Cyprus, Greek and Turkish Cypriots. Unfortunately, in the years that followed Cyprus was faced with tragic conflicts, instigated by extreme nationalists on both sides, which culminated to the fascist coup by the Greek junta, the Turkish military invasion in 1974 and the illegal partition of the island which continues until today.
