Adelaide Community marks the tragic coup and
invasion of 1974

On Sunday 17 July, the Justice for Cyprus Committee (SEKA) and the Cyprus
Community of SA held a wreath laying ceremony at the memorial at the Cyprus
Community’s premises, Welland, attended by representatives of the South
Australian Government and Opposition, community leaders, members of the
clergy and a large crowd. Amongst others, were Lucy Hood MP representing the
Premier of South Australia, Jing Lee MLC representing the Opposition, Consul
General of Greece George Psiachas, Mayor of Charles Sturt Council Angela
Evans, Mayor of West Torrens Michael Coxon and Chair of SAMEAC Andriana
Christopoulos. Also, Prof. Andreas Evdokiou, President of Cyprus Community,
Peter Ppiros President of the Justice for Cyprus Committee, Peter Gardiakos
representing the Greek Community of South Australia and many more
community representatives. Speakers at the event, were Lucy Hood MP, Jing Lee
MLC, Greek Consul George Psiachas, Prof. Andreas Evdokiou and Peter Ppiros.
CYPRIOT DEPUTY MINISTER VISIT
Cypriot Deputy Minister for Shipping Mr Vasilios Demetriades addressed a
public meeting at the Cyprus club on 20 July. He spoke on current political
developments on the Cyprus issue and responded to questions by the public.
Almost one hundred people were in attendance, including the abovementioned
dignitaries, the Cyprus High Commissioner Martha Mavrommatis and President
of the Pan-Macedonian Association Evan Tsiaparis.
Before his public speech, Mr Demetriades laid a wreath at Cyprus Community
memorial, in honor of those who fell during the tragic events of 1974 in Cyprus.
