TRIBUTE TO MIKIS THEODORAKIS

December 2021 The Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia presented a concert in honour of the greatest Greek composer of all times, Mikis Theodorakis, who passed away on 2 September 2021. Mikis was a true ambassador of the Greek nation and we had the privilege to welcome him to Adelaide twice in the past at the Olympic Hall, in 1972 as the leader of the movement for the restoration of democracy in Greece during the junta dictatorship and in 1995 for a number of concerts in the major Australian cities. A total of forty songs were presented by the “Zorbas Band” at the musical direction of Christakis Panteli. Vocalists were, Stamatis Dimitrakopoulos, Ismini Spiroglou, Vasilis Ioannides and tenor Yiannis Frangos in a special appearance. Musicians were, Michalis Grbillos Keyboard, Stavros Papadopoulos guitar, Yiannis Sioutis drums and Christakis Panteli bouzouki.
