Peter Ppiros - editor

Originally a refugee from Lapithos, Cyprus, Peter Ppiros is the founder and editor of the Greek Community Tribune, a national Greek language newspaper, established in Renmark, in 1993.

During his 35 years as a resident of South Australia's Riverland region, he has gained extensive knowledge on rural and horticultural issues.

Peter Ppiros was appointed Deputy Chairman of the South Australian Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Commission (SAMEAC) in 2006. Peter, who has been a member of the Commission since January 2003, is a strong advocate for regional South Australia and multiculturalism.

He has had extensive experience in delivering and managing a wide variety of services directly to immigrants and refugees over the years. In 2004 he was elected Chairman of the Riverland Multicultural Forum, an incorporated organisation which represents the region's multicultural community and provides settlement services to new migrants. He is also Chairman of South Australia's Regional Multicultural Communities Council.

Peter Ppiros is also the founder of the Riverland Greek Festival which was awarded the 2000 SA Great Regional Award for the Arts, for its contribution towards multiculturalism and reconciliation with the Indigenous community.He is a recipient of the Centenary of Federation Medal for service to the community through the advancement of multiculturalism.
